World's chefs call for June 25 to be known as Bourdain Day

The late Anthony Bourdain

As we near the first anniversary of the death of legendary chef and writer Anthony Bourdain, chefs around the world are calling for June 25 to be named Bourdain Day in his honour.

Although the anniversary of Bourdain’s death is June 8, Bourdain’s longtime friends, chefs Eric Ripert and José Andrés have called for a day of celebration on his birthday two weeks later.

On Instagram, Ripert and Andrés posted a video saying: “Wherever you are & whoever you’re with, on 06/25 join [us] by taking a moment to post & share your tributes & memories of Anthony using #BourdainDay & wish him Peace, Love and a very Happy Birthday on his journey.”

The hashtag was trending soon after the post went up over the weekend, and will no doubt go viral on June 25.

Bourdain is celebrated for his resounding enthusiasm and love for food and exploring, evident in his many TV programs including Parts Unknown.

The hospitality community all around the world mourned his death for weeks after his passing, with top Australian chefs taking to social media with posts of admiration and grief.

In 2018, CNN’s obituary for Bourdain, writer by Brian Stelter, has been noted as the most read article in the world of 2018.
