The US’s biggest food delivery platform is coming to Melbourne

The US’s biggest food delivery platform, Door Dash, operates in 4000 cities and works with over 310,000 foodservice businesses.

On September 4 it made its debut outside of north America and launched in Melbourne.

Restaurant chains including Nando’s, Betty’s Burgers and Salsa’s Fresh Mex Grill in the CBD have already signed on, with more joining in the CBD and the outer suburbs – where Door Dash is targeting most – in the coming weeks.

In an already crowded market, dominated by UberEats and Deliveroo, Door Dash’s introductory promotions will include “30 or $30” for new customers – any meal not delivered in 30 minutes will entitle the customer to a $30 voucher towards their next meal. And, for the time being, there will also be no delivery fees on orders over $10.

Unlike its competitors, Door Dash also has a pick up option for customers in a hurry. (Though, isn’t that the same as calling the business directly for takeaway?)

The service will also launch “DoorDash Drive” in Melbourne, which will enable restaurants to access drivers on-demand.
