Rockpool alum to open casual restaurant in Brunswick Heads
Sydney-born London-based restaurateur and chef Bonny Porter is opening her first Australian restaurant this week in Brunswick Heads.
Porter began her career at Neil Perry's Rockpool in Sydney before appearing on Masterchef Australia: The Professionals at 23 – the youngest finalist ever in the series. She later moved to London to open restaurant Balls and Company in Soho, and cocktail bar Company Below.
Now she's sold her London businesses and returned home to open Bounty in Northern NSW, overlooking the Simpson River. Taking inspiration from her time in Europe, the 80-seat all-day venue will serve a menu that traverses the continent.
Head chef David Lovett, formerly Uccello, has created a menu that's broken down into land and sea categories, with “family-style” share plates that focus on one main element, like spatchcock or prawns.
On the takeaway side there'll be Swedish cardamom buns, and focaccia and baguettes.
“Bounty will be a destination that brings people together around a common love of simple food done well in the small seaside village that Bruns is,” says Porter.
