Rockpool Dining Group has quietly closed its Brisbane CBD outlet of its nationwide chain, Burger Project.

A Rockpool spokesperson told the Courier Mail that the closure was due to a “saturated burger market in Brisbane”. This is the last remaining Burger Project in Queensland.

The group’s original Queensland outlet in South Brisbane also closed this year, after Neil Perry opened the restaurant in February 2017.

Rockpool will keep the large, bright site and convert it into something new next month.

Nine Burger Project outlets still operate in New South Wales and Victoria, the first of which opened in 2014 – when the country’s burger craze, which has since slowed dramatically, was kicking off.

Neil Perry is not the only fine-dining chef whose foray into burgers and fast-food is coming undone. Shannon Bennett's Melbourne burger chain Benny Burger closed earlier this year.
