Hardware Societe is moving to a (much) bigger site
Hugely popular Melbourne cafe and tourist spot Hardware Societe has outgrown its Hardware Street location, and is moving to a bigger space between Flinders Street and Flinders Lane.
The cafe is known for its French-leaning Australian breakfasts. There’s plenty of poached eggs and avo to go around, but there’s also boudin blanc, steak tartare and prawn and scallop gribiche with lemon and dill potato cakes, asparagus and salmon roe. Co-owners Di and Will Keser live in Paris, where they opened Hardware Societe Paris in 2016.
A crowd regularly gathers outside the Melbourne cafe on weekends to wait for a table, so now they’ll be able to keep up with demand.
The new 255-square-metre digs on Katherine Place will mean the team can grow the menu and start offering drinks and snacks on Friday nights, though menu favourites will remain.
The new Hardware Societe will open on February 27, and the “mothership” on Hardware Street will have its last service the day before.
The pair have also announced a cookbook, which they say will launch this month.
