Christy Tania to open dessert cafe in Melbourne's CBD

Celebrated pastry chef Christy Tania will open her second Glacé cafe and dessert store at Emporium Melbourne at the end of April.

Like the original in Windsor, which opened last year, the new Glacé will offer Tania’s signature ice-creams and beautifully intricate desserts.

The ongoing Emporium menu will consist of 10 bespoke ice-cream flavours and eight cakes, including ice-cream cakes and frozen push pops. A selection of savoury options will also be on offer.

Housed within the main thoroughfare on the first level of the CBD mall, the café, which will be styled similarly to the Windsor outlet’s yellow submarine design, will offer both sit down and take-away menu options.

While Tania hoped to be open in time for the Easter rush, building delays have meant that her Easter dessert specials will only be available at the Windsor store.

In a nod to her new home in one of Melbourne’s fashion destinations, Tania also plans to collaborate with various designers and retailers within Emporium to create limited-edition desserts, which will be inspired by new season collections.

“The idea of Glacé is to provide a place where both locals and visitors to Melbourne can enjoy high quality and creatively made ice-cream and desserts, which have been hand crafted using the highest quality ingredients. In Victoria, we are blessed to have access to such rich natural resources, from fresh milk and cream, through to eggs and seasonal fruits – we use as many local ingredients as possible,” says Tania.

The opening of the Emporium store is the next step of Christy’s vision for Glacé, with a full-service dessert dining experience also in the works.

“Since hanging up my apron as executive pastry chef at Om Nom at Adelphi, I’ve been busy hatching up a long-term plan for Glacé. I’m excited to roll that out over the coming 12 months with more exciting news for Glacé soon to be announced,” she said.
