BBQ, karaoke and rooftop bar Heroes opens on Melbourne's Bourke Street

Heroes co-owner and executive chef, Mike Patrick, with head chef Alicia Cheong.

The team behind Fancy Hank’s and Good Heavens have opened their third Melbourne venue with the launch of three-level, Hawker-style barbecue, karaoke and rooftop bar, Heroes.

Heroes co-owner and executive chef Mike Patrick says, “After a year of planning and building, we were so eager to finally open the doors over the weekend.

"So far so good with a fantastic response from customers.”

Designed by co-owner Kent Bell, the space features neon lighting, hanging lanterns and pop music posters.

With Alicia Cheong heading the Heroes kitchen, the new menu is cooked either over coals or an open fire, and is inspired by the hawker markets of Singapore and Malaysia.

Chicken wings with chilli vinegar and fresh lime at Heroes.

Among the skewers are 'Tingling Lamb' with lamb rump, Szechuan pepper, cumin, and lemon; Duck hearts, teriyaki, garlic chives, and lemon; and eggplant, black bean paste, and spring onion.

Share plates include smoked beef tongue with scallion salad and chilli oil; sambal stingray with fermented shrimp sauce and lime; and ember-roasted butternut with pumpkin seeds and miso.

Pairing well with Cheong's menu is Heroes' cocktail list curated by Oscar Eastmen (Loretta's, Eau de Vie). The celebration of South East Asian ingredients includes 'Chai a little tenderness' with Sailor Jerry spiced rum, chai, condensed milk and preserved mandarin; and 'Gold Finger' with Szechuan-infused Wyborowa vodka, seaweed brine, kaffir lime, chilli and lemon grass-infused Sake and Laphroaig.

Heroes also features six rotating taps of a range of local craft and international beers, and over 20 brews by the bottle.
